KuPS advanced to the playoff round of the Europa League, ie the fourth and final qualifying round. KuPS secured the place by taking a 2-0 victory over Lithuanian FK Suduva in the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

KuPS took the 1-0 lead in the opening period of the match when Lucas Rangel got the ball in the penalty area Suduvan’s goalkeeper Ivan Kardumin over.

The people of Kuopio succeeded in repeating the goal in the second period when Igor Tarasov succeeded in scoring.

The match was played to empty spectators in Kuopio, but the most enthusiastic KuPS supporters gathered behind the fences to encourage the home team.

In the next round, KuPS will face the Romanian team CFR Cluj. The winner of the fourth qualifying round will advance to the actual block stage.

The profit brings a significant amount of money to KuPS. Last season, for example, the victory in the third qualifying round brought the clubs a pot of € 300,000. Last season, the clubs also received a prize money of 280,000 euros for their third qualifying round.

Admission to the group stage brought the clubs EUR 2.92 million last season.

Owner of KuPS Ari Lahti could tell Iltalehti last week whether the amounts had been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
