In an interview with RT, Denis Protsenko, the chief physician of GKB No. 40 in Kommunarka, made cautious forecasts for the end of the pandemic and suggested that the third wave of coronavirus in Russia would happen in March 2021.

Protsenko considersthat if the increase in the incidence of coronavirus occurs according to the same scenario as during the seasonal flu epidemic, then the third wave of coronavirus can be expected in March next year. If an effective COVID-19 vaccine appears by this time, it will be “less violent in terms of the number of cases.”

The chief doctor also voiced his hopes for an end to the pandemic. According to him, this may happen in June 2021 or even earlier, but, according to him, it is too early to “spoil”.

Formerly the head of the Institute of Medical Parasitology of Sechenov University, Alexander Lukashev reportedthat a third wave of coronavirus is possible in the regions of Russia. According to him, in Russia the situation with regard to morbidity is very uneven, as evidenced by the daily reports of the headquarters in different regions. This is influenced by various factors, from the frequency of contacts, weather conditions and ending with restrictive measures in different regions of the federation. If the restrictions are not tightened, and the population has not yet formed an immune layer, most likely it is worth waiting for the third round of the epidemic. The scientist also noted that in Moscow this wave will be noticeably weaker than the first and second, while in other regions it can bring many losses.

Similar forecast said Natalya Pshenichnaya, deputy director for clinical and analytical work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, who believes that the situation with the incidence in Russia will worsen in February-March next year.
