Ronald Koeman recorded it again on Friday for Lionel Messi. The star player of FC Barcelona was criticized on Wednesday because he almost did not participate in the Champions League match against Dynamo Kiev (2-1 win).
‘Shouldn’t be obsessed with criticism’
Messi caused a sensation during that game by having a Kiev defender just in front of his nose dribble across the center line and walking around at his leisure. The images were extensively discussed in the media.
“You can capture every player at a certain point on foot. Messi’s attitude is very good. If you want to cause unrest, that’s your thing. I’m not in it,” Koeman responded at a press conference.
Messi, who initially wanted to leave last summer, is not working on his best season at FC Barcelona. He scored four times in the first nine official games, each time from a penalty kick.
“Like everyone else, he has some difficult moments where the ball doesn’t go in for a while, but he is still a determining player. He is extremely important in our attacking game,” said Koeman.

FC Barcelona is yearning for a victory in La Liga. The Catalans have so far won everything in the group stage of the Champions League, but have already been four games without a win in the competition and therefore dropped to twelfth place.
“Teams like Barcelona always need to be close to the lead and there is always criticism. I can deal with the criticism, but we should not become obsessed with it,” said Koeman.
“It’s been a long season and we have to take it one game at a time. We need three points and a little rest. But even if we win, it won’t calm down right away. There’s always something going on at this club.”
FC Barcelona will take on number seven Real Betis on Saturday. ‘Barça’ is nine points behind the surprising leader Real Sociedad, which has played two more games.
