The KNVB has urged the clubs in professional football to continue to follow the corona protocol closely. The football association fears that the pressure on the schedule will be too great if matches have to be rescheduled regularly and threatens a disciplinary case if the rules are not properly observed.
Several duels have already been postponed due to an outbreak
A spokesperson for the KNVB confirms Friday after reporting The Telegraph that clubs have recently been reminded of the corona protocol in a video discussion. The football association has had to move several games in recent weeks due to COVID-19 outbreaks at clubs and is concerned.
“Infections can of course happen, but we cannot keep shifting matches indefinitely. Otherwise the pressure on the schedule will be too great,” a KNVB spokesperson told Press.
“That is why we feel compelled to attach consequences to negligence. If an investigation by the GGD shows that a club or the players have not complied with the rules, the disciplinary committee can start a case. We want to urge clubs to adhere to the basic rules. “
In both the Eredivisie and the Kitchen Champion Division, it already happened this season that matches had to be moved. For example, on Thursday it was decided to postpone the game between De Graafschap and Helmond Sport, because the Brabanders did not have thirteen players at their disposal due to a corona outbreak.
In a disciplinary case, clubs risk a fine, a regulatory defeat and / or point deduction. In Serie A, Napoli was recently penalized with a regulatory defeat and a point deduction, because the club from Naples was not allowed to leave for Turin for the away game against Juventus due to two positive tests.
Despite the infections at the Dutch clubs, the matches in the Eredivisie and the Kitchen Champion Division may continue for the time being. The cabinet decided on Tuesday evening to stop the competitions in amateur sport, but made an exception for professional football.
