National coach Frank de Boer has included Davy Klaassen in the 25-man final roster for the exhibition match against Spain and the Nations League games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland. Kevin Strootman is one of the dropouts from the pre-selection.
Nations League important for World Cup qualification
The 27-year-old Klaassen played his last of a total of sixteen international matches in October 2017. Due to a bad year at Everton, he disappeared from the selection of Orange, after which he was not called up as a player for Werder Bremen.
This autumn he returned to Ajax, where he impressed De Boer, who still knows him from his time as a trainer at the Amsterdam club. Kevin Strootman, who usually does not have a basic place at Olympique Marseille, has passed for the Orange for the first time in years. De Boer not only prefers Klaassen in midfield, but also AZ captain Teun Koopmeiners.
The other dropouts from the pre-selection are Justin Bijlow (Feyenoord), Javairô Dilrosun (Hertha BSC), Denzel Dumfries (PSV), Marten de Roon (Atalanta Bergamo), Pablo Rosario (PSV), Perr Schuurs (Ajax), Daley Sinkgraven (Bayer Leverkusen) and Wout Weghorst (VfL Wolfsburg). At Dumfries, he also does not play at PSV due to the corona virus and De Roon is missing the last match Atalanta.
As keepers, De Boer has chosen Jasper Cillessen, who has no basic place at Valencia, Tim Krul of Championships club Norwich City and Marco Bizot of AZ. Bijlow will most likely be selected for the Juniors.

The Dutch will start the last international period of 2020 on Wednesday, November 11 with the exhibition match in the Johan Cruijff ArenA against Spain.Four days later, the empty ArenA is also the setting for the Nations League game with Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by the group stage on Wednesday, November 18 in Chorzow ends with a confrontation with Poland.
To reach the final round of the Nations League, just like in 2019, the Orange must finish first in group 1 and it is now third with five points. Number two Italy has six points and leader Poland seven.
It is also important to finish in the top ten countries of the Nations League because then you will be the group head in the draw for the World Cup qualification on December 7. Only the group winners of the European qualifying series qualified directly for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
