Davy Klaassen and Sean Klaiber made their first minutes for Ajax on Wednesday since their transfer to Amsterdam. The midfielder and the right back were in the base in a friendly game behind closed doors against AZ (1-1).
AZ midfielder Thijs Oosting opened the score at Sportpark De Toekomst halfway through the first half. Just before half-time, Lassina Traoré signed for the equalizer on the instructions of David Neres.
Klaassen returned to Ajax on Monday after three years. The 27-year-old midfielder, who came over from Werder Bremen for 11 million euros, immediately got the captain’s armband from trainer Erik ten Hag after the replacement of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Klaiber came a week ago for about 5 million euros from FC Utrecht. The right back was already in the selection for the Eredivisie game with FC Groningen last weekend (1-0 loss), but then got no playing time.
Juan Familia-Castillo participated at AZ. The left back, who was active for Young Ajax last season, was rented from Chelsea for a year on ‘Deadline Day’ on Tuesday. Acquisition Bruno Martins Indi did not play yet.
Both teams missed a lot of players due to international obligations. The Moroccan internationals Zakaria Labyad and Noussair Mazraoui and the Burkinese Traoré were present, because Ajax, like the Ghanaian Mohammed Kudus, has not released them for international matches in Morocco and Turkey due to concerns about the corona virus.
