Davy Klaassen and Pablo Rosario have been included in the pre-selection of the Dutch national team for the international team period in October by interim coach Dwight Lodeweges. The Werder Bremen player and the PSV player were not there recently.

Klaassen was missing for years at Orange

Compared to the previous pre-selection, Feyenoord player Steven Berghuis, Timothy Fosu-Mensah (Manchester United), Donyell Malen (PSV) and Javairô Dilrosun (Hertha BSC) also return.

The pre-selection consists of a total of 38 names. Then there are six more than in the previous international period, when the Orange faced Poland (1-0 win) and Italy (0-1 loss) in the Nations League.

The Dutch national team will play in the Nations League next month against Bosnia-Herzegovina (away, October 11) and Italy (away, October 14). The international period starts for the Orange squad on October 7 with an exhibition game against Mexico in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Klaassen played a total of sixteen times for the Dutch national team, but after his transfer from Ajax to Everton he quickly fell out of the picture at Orange. His last international match dates back to October 2017, when he was allowed to fill in the World Cup qualifying match with Sweden. The 27-year-old Klaassen has been playing for Werder Bremen since 2018.

Rosario played his only international match in 2018. The 23-year-old midfielder of PSV, who had a lesser period last season, then fell in for Matthijs de Ligt in an exhibition game with Belgium. The Juventus defender is missing from the Orange team due to a shoulder operation.

The pre-selection was put together by Lodeweges, who was moved forward after Ronald Koeman’s departure to FC Barcelona. It is expected that a definitive successor will be appointed soon. Frank de Boer seems to be the main candidate.

The final selection will be announced on Friday, October 2.

Target: Marco Bizot, Jasper Cillessen, Tim Krul, Jeroen Zoet.

Rearguard: Nathan Aké, Daley Blind, Virgil van Dijk, Denzel Dumfries, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Hans Hateboer, Perr Schuurs, Kenny Tete, Joël Veltman, Stefan de Vrij, Owen Wijndal.

Midfield: Donny van de Beek, Leroy Fer, Mohamed Ihattaren, Frenkie de Jong, Davy Klaassen, Teun Koopmeiners, Davy Pröpper, Marten de Roon, Pablo Rosario, Kevin Strootman, Tonny Vilhena, Goerginio Wijnaldum.
