The High Court ruled that Depp assaulted his wife, Amber Heard.
Johnny Depp has sued News Group Newspapers, the company that owns The Sun, and editor Dan Wootton.
The newspaper wrote in April 2018 that the actor beat his wife and claims that the stories are true. The trial began on July 7, 2020. For 16 days, witnesses were testified before the judge, including Johnny Depp and his ex-wife.
On November 2, the High Court ruled against the plaintiff. The judge said the newspaper proved that the article contained “considerably true” elements and found that 12 of the 14 incidents highlighted had taken place.
The judge who dismissed his appeal said he did not have “a reasonable prospect of success,” but gave him until Dec. 7 to apply directly to the Court of Appeal.
The decision of Judge Justice Nicol, who also made the first decision, was given last week, but was made public on Wednesday.
He also ordered Depp to make the initial payment to NGN of about £ 630,000 in court costs.
With the loss of the lawsuit, Depp left the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise after being asked to resign. He played the role of the wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the Warner Bros. movie series. Depp filmed a single scene for the third film, but will receive the full fee.
He was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen, Warner Bros. confirmed.
