Jeff Bezos denies report of Washington Post sale to fund NFL team.
Jeff Bezos, the owner of the Washington Post, has denied reports that he is considering selling the newspaper to help fund a potential purchase of the Washington Commanders NFL team. Bezos visited the Post newsroom last week to meet with staff and sit in on editorial meetings. During an interview with CNN in November 2022, he hinted that he had an interest in buying the team, citing his love of football and his childhood growing up in Houston, Texas. The Commanders are a notable franchise in the popular NFL, having won three Super Bowls in 1983, 1988 and 1992. They are located in the large Washington, DC market and are currently owned by Dan Snyder, who is facing allegations of a toxic workplace and for targeting accusers. Amazon Prime Video is the exclusive home of “Thursday Night Football” and the debut of the show was a huge hit, leading to the biggest three hours for US Prime sign ups in the history of Amazon. While Bezos has denied any plans to sell the Washington Post, he has not ruled out the potential purchase of the Commanders.
