Belgian actor Jean-Claude Van Damme is filming in France the action comedy “The Last Mercenary”, directed by David Charhon for Netflix, informs Variety, quoted by news.ro
The French-language film is written by Charhon and Ismael Sy Savane.
The cast also includes Alban Ivanov (“Lucky”), Assa Sylla (“Mortel”) and Samir Decazza (“Valide”).
The film is produced by Jean-Charles Levy and Nicolas Manuel (Forecast Pictures), Olivier Albou and Laurence Schonberg (Other Angle Pictures), David Charhon, Jakéma Charhon and Eponine Maillet (Mony Films) and by Olias Barco and Vlad Riashyn (Apple Tree) .
This is Van Damme’s first Netflix project and the first action comedy in which he plays.
“The Last Mercenary is an incredibly interesting project and allows me to approach a new genre,” he said. “I have always been an admirer of Jean-Paul Belmondo and I hope to take over the torch of action comedy in my own way. David Charhon’s screenplay brings together all the elements of success – a beautiful story with emotion, a lot of action and a lot of humor “.
The director, in turn, said he wants to return to “the great tradition of action movies of the 1980s and 1990s – those cult movies we all love, where the heroes were unusual, the stunts were more impressive and real than life, all punctuated with humor; only Jean-Claude can embody this unparalleled golden age of cinema. ”
