(Eintracht Braunschweig – Hertha Berlin 5-4) He has been the first goalkeeper for five years for Hertha Berlin. And named Bundesliga goalkeeper of the year. But now Rune Almenning Jarstein (35) is parked on the reserve bench.
But it is questionable whether he will not get the place back soon. It would have been best for Norway as well. October 8 is the European Championship playoff against Serbia at Ullevaal. The man who has benched him at least experiences the pure nightmare. The setbacks flow in. As many as 11 in the last four matches.
The German capital club raised NOK 55 million for Alexander Schwolow (28) from Freiburg this summer. according to
is a purchase which means that the Norwegian national team goalkeeper (67 games for Norway) must give way.
Schwolow is Hertha’s new summer 1. Jarstein is squeezed out – writes Bild – Europe’s largest newspaper.
On Friday night, however, Schwolow experienced a terrible night at work as a last resort when Hertha Berlin was eliminated from the 1st round of the German Cup (DFB Pokal) against Eintracht Braunschweig (2nd Bundesliga). Martin Kobylanski became the big player of the match with a hat trick for Braunschweig. In addition, the home team got help from an own goal, and scoring by Suleiman Abdullahi (between the legs of Schwolow).
– This was absolutely awful. Total disaster for us. We come back after a minute of the match. That goal ruined. And that should never have happened, says Alexander Schwolow to German Sky Sports.
Jarstein was a reserve. Sitting in the stands well wrapped in a black overcoat. In the run-up to the season, he has had to play one round in three of four games.
And Jarstein has only conceded one goal (against PSV) in a weak season run-up for Hertha. The competitor Schwolow, on the other hand, has had to endure 11 backwards against Ajax, PSV, HSV and Eintracht Braunschweig, respectively. The question is what coach Bruno Labbadia does after the embarrassing loss in the cup.
Bild claims that Labbadia will bet on one goalkeeper. Rotation with a goalkeeper in the Bundesliga, and one in the cup – as some clubs practice – seems irrelevant. Now Schwolow does not seem self-described for the series opener away against Werder Bremen (Saturday 19 September).
It may have been monster mistakes like this (see video above) that made Hertha shop this summer. But Jarstein has made tips to shame in the past. He came to Berlin six years ago – and was ranked third goalkeeper – but played big when first-choice Thomas Kraft was injured.
Since 2015, he has been number 1. In 2017, Bild had him on «Team of the Year».
