Trainer Ron Jans is of course proud that FC Twente is at the top of the Eredivisie, after the Enschede club won 0-3 against Willem II on Saturday. But the coach also guards against too much euphoria.
‘Great working with these guys’
“The lead is a situation for a day”, said Jans, who has eleven points with Twente after five games, after the game against FOX Sports.
With Feyenoord, PSV, sc Heerenveen, Vitesse and Ajax, no fewer than five clubs can take the lead this Sunday, Jans realizes. “But it is clear that we have some color on the cheeks at FC Twente. We can be positive, but I remain critical. I thought Willem II was better in the first half hour.”
The Tukkers won in Tilburg by two goals from Ajax mercenary Danilo and a goal from Jayden Oosterwolde, who came from their own youth. “It is nice to see that guys who didn’t know each other a few months ago now play well together”, says Jans, referring to his entire team.

According to Jans, the strength of the current Twente is also the breadth of the selection, with numerous players who have only played in the Grolsch Veste since last summer. “Everyone who joins us has the potential to become a basic player. If we handle that well, we have a very good team.”
“It is amazing and a compliment to all of us that in a short time there is a team with a clear way of playing. We play ahead, with energy and achieve results. For a trainer it is wonderful to work with these guys.”
The first club that can pass FC Twente in the ranking on Sunday is Feyenoord, which will play the Rotterdam derby against Sparta at 12.30 in De Kuip on Sunday. Dick Advocaat’s team must take at least one point to take over the lead.
