Educational institutions and all non-essential economic activity will continue to be closed.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government partner Benny Gantz agreed extend the total confinement until Sunday, which expired this Wednesday, but they will not renew the emergency law that limits the demonstrations.

The national closure remains in force after the Israeli coronavirus Cabinet decided to delay until Thursday the approval of the de-escalation plan by the high number of infections that the country still registers.

With the extension of the closure, it is still forbidden to go more than one kilometer from the home and educational institutions and all non-essential economic activity will remain closed.

However, it will not renew the emergency laws that introduced limitations on prayers and protests that affect those called weekly to call for the resignation of Netanyahu for his trial for corruption and management of the pandemic.

Israel is currently studying a plan to gradual and phased de-escalation, unlike the rapid reopening that began after controlling the first wave of coronavirus and that triggered infections to place it as the country with the highest morbidity rate in the world.

It is second confinement it had to be hardened a week after it came into effect on September 18 because infections exceeded 9,000 daily cases.

In recent days, the country managed to significantly reduce the ratio of positives, from about 15% to 7%, however yesterday it registered again more than 3,000 infections, a figure still high despite the downward trend.

The coronavirus Cabinet will meet again on Thursday to study the reopening schedule and review the term of the extended lockdown until sunday at midnight.

With a population of about nine million, Israel is approaching 300,000 positives since the start of the pandemic and has recorded a total of 2,040 deaths.
