(CNN) – Iran says it has issued arrest warrants for 36 people, including the president of U.SDonald Trump, for allegedly planning or ordering the death of the commander of the Guard Corps of the Islamic Revolution (IRGC) Qasem Soleimani, the semi-official agency of news Fars.
Tehran Attorney General Ali Alqasi Mehr said Trump is at the top of that list, according to the Fars agency. Mehr also claimed that Trump will be prosecuted as soon as he steps down from the presidency after his term ends, Fars reported.
Qassim Soleimani died in a US airstrike at Baghdad International Airport in January along with five others, including Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Iranian-backed Iraqi People’s Mobilization Forces (PMF).
The announcement of the arrest warrants comes after Iran’s judiciary spokesman Gholam-Hossein Esmaili said on June 9 that Iran had sentenced one of its citizens to death for allegedly working for foreign intelligence agencies. . Esmaili claimed that Seyed Mahmoud Mousavi Majd revealed Soleimani’s whereabouts to US intelligence officials.
