A week ago, when it became known that Haas decided to completely renew the lineup in 2021, Zach Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, said that he would be happy to consider Kevin Magnussen as a candidate for the Arrow McLaren SP team playing in the American IndyCar Championship. but there are no vacancies in it.
At that time, it was only known that the Mexican Pato O’Ward would continue to play for her next season, but the name of his partner was not yet announced. But now Arrow McLaren SP has officially confirmed that there will be changes in the team: in 2021, Felix Rosenquist will sit behind the wheel of the second car.
The 28-year-old Swede performed well in Formula E at one time, finishing third in his debut season in the electric series, and in the same 2017 became the third in the Japanese Super Formula. He moved to IndyCar last year and immediately attracted attention as he struggled for the podium from the very first races and finished 6th in the championship.
Felix won his first victory this season in a Chip Ganassi Racing car, and presumably his speed and aggressive style of fighting on the track attracted Zach Brown and his business partners.
In 2021, Rosenquist will pilot the # 7 Dallara-Chevrolet, replacing Oliver Askew in the Arrow McLaren SP.
Felix Rosenquist: “I want to take the next step in my career as soon as possible and join the Arrow McLaren SP. This year, the team has demonstrated that it consistently claims high results, and I am ready to start working with Pato to help her move forward.
I want to thank Zach Brown, Rick Peterson, Sam Schmidt and the entire team for this opportunity and am already working to prepare as well as possible for next season. Looking forward to having fun! “
Zach Brown: “It is not often possible to have two young and talented riders like Pato and Felix in one team. I think they will make a very strong duo, and I am interested to see what they jointly achieve on the track and beyond. “
