With the arrival of the new iPhone comes the controversy as it happened at the time with the iPhone 7, which by not having the 3.5mm Jack port generated a lot of controversy, and now, 4 years after that launch, the iPhone 12 are official and will go on sale without a charger, a situation that has once again brought a lot of controversy among the different users and press.

According to Apple, with this they will consume less raw materials for each iPhone sold. Also, the box of the new iPhones will be smaller, which in addition to reducing the cardboard used means that there will be 70% more units that can fit on a single shipping pallet and thus reduce carbon emissions.

On the other hand, they assure that this change will reduce more than 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions per year, the equivalent of taking 450,000 cars off the road every year. For many, this is no other movement than the search to sell more accessories, while others welcome Apple’s move to take care of the planet.

Chile would not allow the sale of the iPhone 12 without a charger

In the case of Latin America, Mexico and Chile are two of the most important markets in the region, in fact, looking at Brazil and Colombia we are talking about the 4 main markets for Apple and other smartphone companies in Latin America. For that reason, Apple seems to have a problem with the launch of its next phones, since in Chile there is a regulation that requires manufacturers to include certain accessories in their products, and the charger is one of them.

According to the local media, Transmedia, which had access to the current regulations of the country, “Resolution 24730 Exempt from the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels (SEC)” explains the characteristics that electrical products must meet to be marketed, where the following is mentioned:

«Any electrical product for domestic use that is marketed in the country, manufactured for a voltage or a range of voltages, must be suitable for the user to connect directly to the nominal voltage established in the country, that is, 220V ~ / 50 Hz .

Therefore, it is the responsibility of the marketers to provide the products with the appropriate accessories to fulfill this condition ”.

In Transmedia they even went ahead due to rumors that the iPhone would not have a charger, so they met and obtained a document with the representatives of the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels (SEC), who have confirmed that in Chile the iPhone should sold with charger.

What will happen now?

In this case, Apple must reach an agreement with the SEC to define whether they will have to include a charger in all the iPhone 12 sold in Chile, or if the company will have a special permit to sell its next phones without a charger, however, that is we will know in the next few days.

On the other hand, the source mentions that this could even be a problem in other countries in the world that have similar regulations, so if this is the case, Apple would have to reach an agreement to avoid a possible lawsuit by users or a punishment. by the regulatory entities of each country.
