Olivier Assayas will be the guest of honor of the 2020 edition of the Lecce European Film Festival, which will be held from 31 October to 7 November and will pay homage to Aldo Fabrizi.

As announced, the Lecce Festival also hosts a tribute to Aldo Fabrizi e the eleventh edition of the Mario Verdone Award. The latter, established in agreement with the family Verdone from the European Film Festival, in collaboration with the Experimental Center of Cinematography and the National Union of Italian Film Journalists, is reserved for a young Italian author who has particularly distinguished himself in the last film season for his first work.
The Jury, made up of Carlo, Luca e Silvia Verdone, has chosen three finalists from among the selected authors: Phaim bhuiyan per Bangla, Marco D’Amore per The Immortal, Roberto De Feo per The nest – The nest. As for the tax a Fabrizi, 30 years after his death, the Festival celebrates his talent with a retrospective of the works he directed, and an exhibition on his art by his niece Heaven Pession which includes photographs, posters, playbills, stage clothes, screenplays, gastronomic recipes. There will be a screening of the film Fabrizi & Fellini: the strange encounter, in the presence of the author Luca Verdone, and a meeting / round table moderated by Enrico Magrelli on the importance of the figure of Fabrizi in which various professionals will take part. For the occasion, the restoration of the The Passaguai family (1951), from Fabrizi directed and interpreted.
The Lecce Festival also includes short films, documentaries and meetings dedicated to Italian and European comedy with its most significant characters, as well as a competition of 12 European titles that will be shown in national preview and will compete in theUlivo d’Oro – Cristina Soldano Award for Best European Film. The European Film Festival, conceived and organized by the “Art Promotion” Cultural Association, is organized by the Apulia Film Commission Foundation and the Puglia Region with resources from the Pact for Puglia (FSC).
