Frank de Boer makes his debut on Wednesday in his first international match as national coach Owen Wijndal and Teun Koopmeiners. The Orange team plays friendly against Mexico in the Johan Cruijff ArenA (kick-off at 8.45 pm).
The 22-year-old left midfielder Koopmeiners is part of the selection of Orange for the first time. Twenty-year-old left back Wijndal was also called up last month, but was then not given any playing time by interim national coach Dwight Lodeweges.
Tim Krul also gets a basic place from the new national coach. The Norwich City goalkeeper played the last of his eight caps in 2015.
Compared to the previous international match, when the Orange lost 0-1 to Italy under Lodeweges, Jasper Cillessen, Joël Veltman, Nathan Aké, Marten de Roon, Frenkie de Jong and Quincy Promes will disappear from the base. Besides Wijndal, Koopmeiners and Krul, Stefan de Vrij, Ryan Babel and Steven Berghuis are also new to the line-up.
With the exhibition game against Mexico, the Orange squad is preparing for the Nations League games with Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sunday in Zencia) and Italy (next Wednesday in Bergamo).
Orange: Curl; Hateboer, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Wijndal; Wijnaldum, Van de Beek, Koopmeiners; Mountain House, Memphis, Babel.
Mexico: not yet known.
