Three medical workers in the Altai Territory confirmed the coronavirus after being vaccinated with the Sputnik V drug, developed by scientists at the V.I. Gamalei. Local authorities are convinced that there is no reason to doubt the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Earlier, the authorities of the Altai Territory received the first batch of Russian vaccines, after which 42 medical workers were vaccinated. Soon, three doctors who received the drug confirmed the coronavirus. In government explainedthat the cause of infection may be the “immune window” – a two-component vaccine is given at intervals of three weeks, and a person is considered protected three weeks after the second injection. Thus, by the time of meeting with the pathogen, the doctors did not have time to form an immune response, the regional authorities believe.

Another version voiced chief epidemiologist of the Altai Territory Irina Pereladova, who also received the Sputnik V vaccine. According to her, the day before the first injection, all medical workers passed tests for the presence of antibodies and the virus in the blood. All had negative results. Pereladova believes that the doctors became infected in the interval between the collection of tests and the first injection of drugs. The specialist emphasized that no vaccine can guarantee that a person will not get infected during the incubation period.

In early October, the chief infectious disease specialist of the Altai Territory, Valery Shevchenko, announced that the second batch of the vaccine – about 2 thousand doses – would arrive in the region in the first quarter of next year.

The first registered Russian vaccine against coronavirus “Sputnik V” was created by the Center. Gamalei together with the Ministry of Defense. The production of the drug was launched on August 15, mass vaccination is planned in 2021. At the moment, post-registration clinical trials of the drug are underway, for which, among other things, medical workers are involved.

The second Russian vaccine against coronavirus “EpiVacCorona” was created by the Novosibirsk Scientific Center “Vector”, its registration was announced on October 14. Post-registration clinical trials will take place in the regions of Russia with the participation of 40 thousand volunteers, including those over 60. The first batches of EpiVacCorona – 60 thousand doses – will be produced in the near future.

On the eve of Russian President Vladimir Putin announced registration of the third domestic vaccine against coronavirus. The head of state has not yet named the developer of the drug.
