Sc Heerenveen ran into the first loss of points of this Eredivisie season on Friday evening. The team of coach Johnny Jansen played a 1-1 draw at FC Utrecht in Stadium Galgenwaard.
Veerman quickly gives Heerenveen the lead
Heerenveen took the lead early on through a hit by Henk Veerman. The visitors also hit the post and the crossbar in the first half, but Utrecht came alongside just before half time through a goal from Gyrano Kerk.
In the second half, Utrecht was clearly the better team, but coach John van den Brom’s team failed to take advantage of the opportunities. Heerenveen also ended up with ten men in the final phase due to a second yellow card for substitute Rein Smit, but the team won a hard-fought point.
Due to the draw, the Frisians can lose the lead later this weekend. They are still in the lead with ten points from four games, but the lead on number two Ajax is only one point. The team from Amsterdam will visit FC Groningen on Sunday. FC Utrecht can be found in the subtop with five points from three matches.

In the Dom city, Henk Veerman opened the score for Heerenveen in the fourth minute. The striker was well served by Rodney Kongolo and shot the ball in the short corner past goalkeeper Maarten Paes, who did not look very good.
A few minutes later Utrecht escaped the 0-2 with a shot on the post by Mitchell van Bergen and halfway through the first half Henk Veerman also hit the aluminum with a long shot on the crossbar.
In between, Mimoun Mahi failed face to face with Heerenveen goalkeeper Erwin Mulder, but one minute before half time it was a hit for Utrecht. Kerk decided to try from the edge of the box and placed the ball beautifully in the left corner.

In the second half, Utrecht was the better team and the home team also created a number of great opportunities. For example, a shot by Mark van der Maarel just went wide and a bet by Simon Gustafson was turned by Mulder. At Heerenveen, Joey Veerman created danger with a shot that sailed over the enemy goal.
After an hour, Heerenveen also lost Henk Veerman due to an injury. The captain was replaced by Smit, who got his second yellow card seven minutes before the end for a serious foul on Adam Maher.
