Sc Heerenveen has strengthened itself on the final day of the transfer market with the Bulgarian talent Stanislav Shopov. The eighteen-year-old attacking midfielder comes over from Botev Plovdiv and signs a two-year contract in Friesland, with an option for a third season.
The Frisian Eredivisionist cannot immediately appeal to Shopov. Because Bulgaria has an orange color code due to the increasing number of corona infections by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it must first be quarantined for ten days upon arrival in Heerenveen.
The eighteen-year-old Shopov went through the entire youth academy of Botev Plovdiv, which plays at the highest level in Bulgaria, and came to 26 duels in the main force. According to Bulgarian media, Heerenveen pays more than 100,000 euros for the midfielder.
“Stanislav is known as a great talent,” said technical manager Gerry Harmstra. “At the age of eighteen, he has already played more than twenty games at the highest level in Bulgaria. With Stanislav, we have brought in an attacking midfielder who is taking the next step in his career and fits well with our philosophy.”
Shopov is already the ninth reinforcement for trainer Johnny Jansen’s Heerenveen. According to the Leeuwarder Courant it does not stop there. The Frisians would also strengthen themselves on Tuesday on the final day of the transfer market with Benjamin Nygren. The Swedish youth international is hired from KRC Genk for two years, according to the newspaper. The transfer market in the Netherlands closes at 11:59 p.m.
