The plenary session of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS), chaired by the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, and in which the directors of the branch of all the autonomous communities participate, have agreed to prohibit in Spain the attendance of the public in international professional football and basketball competitions, as a consequence of the expansion of the coronavirus virus in Spain.

According to the agreement document, to which Europa Press has had access, the health authorities of the communities, and within a statement of coordinated action in public health, This measure will be applied, at least, as long as such assistance is not allowed in national professional competitions, in accordance with the provisions of article 15.2 of Royal Decree-Law 21/2020, of June 9, on urgent prevention, containment and coordination measures to face the health crisis caused by Covid-19.

The declaration will be in force from its notification to the communities and until the Ministry of Health announces the end of its term. This is a measure that, as the text indicates, is “necessary and essential” to tackle the situation of “special risk” for public health derived from the increase in positive cases from Covid-19.

And it is that, as recalled in the document agreed this Wednesday, the attendance of the public in these competitions has a “very significant impact“when it comes to preventing and controlling the spread of the disease.

The coordinated action is intended to apply a single criterion at the state level with respect to the authorization of public attendance at sports competitions professional football and basketball at European level, taking into account that the decision on the establishment of capacity standards and other measures to prevent the risk of contagion in this type of sporting competition corresponds to the autonomous communities.

“The declaration aims to offer a joint response to the current epidemiological situation, both in our country and in much of the world, which discourages at all points at this time the occurrence of risk situations such as those that could occur in the event of allowing the public to attend sporting events such as those mentioned “, says the document that will be discussed in the CISNS.

Currently, all the autonomous communities, except the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, the Valencian Community and Galicia, are at the extreme alert level set in the plan of ‘Coordinated response actions to control the transmission of COVID-19’, approved last week by the Interterritorial.
