For the Norwegian royal family, Christmas will never be the same after the suicide of Ari Behn, † 47. In a new book “Kongen forteller” (in German: “The King tells”), King Harald, 83, reports to the author Harald Stanghelle about this decisive experience and why it brought the family even closer.

December 25, 2019 should be a peaceful day for the royal family. Behn’s ex-wife Princess Märtha Louise, 49, and their children Maud Angelica, 17, Leah Isadora, 15, and Emma Tallulah, twelve, were waiting for Behn at the King’s private estate “Kongsseteren” when the shocking news reached them. “We were all together when it happened. It was a shock. We were so surprised, even though we knew he had problems,” the king is quoted as saying in the book. King Harald: “We have moved much closer together.”
King Harald also reports that the bond with his grandchildren has been strengthened after the loss of Behn. “Because we were all together when we found out about the death, it gave us grandparents the opportunity to get closer to our grandchildren. We are much closer together.”
Ari Behn suffered from severe depression
It was no secret that the artist and ex-husband of Princess Märtha Louise suffered from depression. Daughter Maud Angelica addressed the issue openly at the memorial service for the deceased and called on people to seek help if they needed it. Leah Isadora first spoke about her father in early October. “Nine months ago my father committed suicide. King Harald already spoke about his former son-in-law during his New Year’s speech. “After his family decided to be open about it, it was natural for me to be open too.
