Got that certain 92nd victory – with his eighth success at this year’s Formula One Portuguese Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton, in addition to taking another step towards his seventh World Championship title, broke Michael Schumacher’s previously unattainable victory record. Mercedes could leave Portimao with a double win, with Valtteri Bottas in second place and Red Bull Max Verstappen on the bottom step of the podium.

After winning the 66-lap race, Martin Brundle conducted the interviews with the podium finishers.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes, 1.): “It was a tough race today, it was all about the temperatures. There was something wrong with the settings. It was a good start for me, but in corner 7 my car became very oversteered for a moment. I had to try to defend myself against Valtteri, but I thought I could attack again later, and it did. I never dreamed of ever being where I am today. I didn’t have a king ball when I chose this team where I met great people. I’m here and I said I’m trying to get the most out of each day. I’m still pushing hard, mentally I’m still in a very competitive mode. I am unable to describe my feelings in words now, maybe he will go later. ”

Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes, 2.): “The first lap went pretty well, I was glad I was able to take the lead. Afterwards, however, I couldn’t find my pace, I don’t understand why. I just didn’t have the pace. I tried to defend myself when Lewis got close, but I didn’t really know what to do. Like I said, I don’t know why I was so behind. Though I was pushing hard, I should have been faster. I was hoping to be able to extend my first leg so I could switch to soft tires in the end, but I don’t think it would have mattered in terms of the outcome. ”

Max Verstappen (Red Bull, 3.): “The grip was very low, I tried to miss out on the kalamajka, but then I met Sergio Pérez. He didn’t leave me enough space, so he twisted himself out. Then it rained a bit, I just tried to keep the car on track and run my own race. I had a good pace on the medium tires, but by then the difference was big, so we didn’t know what to do. We didn’t do well on the hard tires, the mediums were definitely the best. All in all, we did what we deserved. ”
