Érick Guttiérez is undergoing an operation on his ankle this week. The Mexican is therefore not available for PSV for the time being.
Gutiérrez did not play much in preparation
Due to the injury, 25-year-old Gutiérrez was missing from PSV’s first league match on Sunday, which was 1-3 too strong for FC Groningen. It is still unclear how long the midfielder will have to rehabilitate, PSV reports Monday only that he is “temporarily out”.
According to it Eindhovens Dagblad it takes three to four weeks before Gutiérrez can resume training. The inspector has had problems with the ankle for some time and the operation must stop it.
Gutiérrez was taken over by PSV for 6 million from the Mexican Pachuca in the summer of 2018. Despite some strong performances in his first season, the nineteen-time international never became an undisputed basic player under trainers Mark van Bommel and Ernest Faber.
Under new trainer Roger Schmidt, Gutiérrez also seems to fall outside the base. The German prefers Pablo Rosario and Ryan Thomas in central midfield. In the preparation, Gutiérrez only had a basic place in two exhibition matches.
PSV is one of the eight clubs that won its first game in the Eredivisie. On Saturday, Schmidt’s team will play at home against FC Emmen.
