Callum Ilott will finish his first free practice session on Friday in a Haas F1. When asked if he is being considered a candidate for next season, team leader Gunther Steiner said no.
Gunther Steiner: “Callum is not a candidate because he is a Ferrari driver. I don’t know what their plans are for him, so he is not on our list at the moment.
I have a lot of respect for Callum. He ranks second in Formula 2, which speaks of his qualities. This morning I met him for the first time, and in the afternoon we will have a full conversation so that I can get to know him better.
As I said, he is not on our list, but he may be on him tomorrow, and it does not depend on the results of Friday’s workout. Of course, if he does something that he shouldn’t, for example, crash a car, it will not help him to become a candidate.
We get motors from Ferrari, and if we want to find new drivers, we will turn to them first. Ferrari’s problem is that they now have three good drivers in the top five in Formula 2. I don’t know how they are going to solve this problem, but I’m glad it’s not my problem. ”
