Jeroen Zoet had a painful debut with Spezia on Sunday. The keeper, who came over from PSV, caused a penalty and could not prevent the Serie A club from losing 1-4 at home against Sassuolo.
The score was opened on behalf of the visitors by Filip Djuricic, former player of sc Heerenveen. Not much later, a hit by Sassuolo striker Francesco Caputo was rejected for offside. After half an hour Andrey Galabinov made the equalizer.
In the second half, however, Zoet had to concede three more goals. Domenico Berardi (he used a penalty kick caused by Zoet), Grégoire Defrel and Caputo scored. Caputo also saw two more hits rejected by the VAR after the break.
Zoet played his first game since he left PSV, the club where he became big, at the beginning of this month due to a lack of perspective for the newly promoted Spezia. He signed there for two years.
The home game against Sassuolo was the first game of the Serie A season for Spezia. The visitors came into action for the second time and are on four points.
Later on Sunday, AS Roma-Juventus will be on the program in Italy. The match in Rome starts at 8.45 p.m.
