General Motors Co. said it has sold its one-year production of the GMC Hummer EV electric pickup truck after unveiling a presentation video on Tuesday.
The GMC website displayed a “full booking” banner over the “Edition 1” Hummer EV, which will begin production in the fall of 2021.

The next version of the truck, the $ 99,995 Hummer EV 3X, is scheduled to begin production only in the fall of 2022. The cheapest Hummer EV, starting at $ 79,995, is scheduled to go into production in the spring of 2024, according to GM.
The Hummer EV was designed in 18 months and has a “Watts to Freedom” mode that accelerates to 97 km / h in just three seconds.
The Hummer EV is partly a response to Tesla Inc.’s Cybertruck, which has a very different design, but just as appealing and a number of extreme performance features. The starting price of the Cybertruck is $ 39,900, although a model with a range of 500 miles starts at $ 69,900.
The market is starting to crowd with electric trucks
Tesla has begun building a plant in Austin, Texas to build Cybertruck beginning in late 2021.
General Motors’ GMC division chief Duncan Aldred said about half of the brand’s dealers had agreed to sell the Hummer EV range.
High-performance electric trucks could be a crowded niche in the US market, with eight companies promising to launch models by the end of 2021.
Ford Motor Co FN promises an electric version of its F-Series pickup, although Ford said it will be for customers who want to use the truck for work. GM is working on Chevrolet versions of its electric truck.
Rivian, Nikola Corp and Lordstown Motors startups are among other companies that have developed electric pickups.
