The Chinese supplier Huawei will not play a role in the 5G core networks in Germany, the German news site reports world Sunday. All network operators have made this decision, following the example of Australia and the United States, among others.

The core network contains all mobile voice, data and internet connections. In short, sensitive parts of the 5G network. To better protect the core, Germany is introducing a new IT security law emphasizing supplier reliability.

Precisely because the reliability is being called into question, Huawei equipment has been banned from the systems in several countries. The US and Australia, among others, fear that the equipment will be used by Chinese authorities for espionage. Huawei denies this.

The UK also announced in January that “high-risk” hardware manufacturers, including Huawei, will have a limited role in the rollout of the 5G network in the country. According to the decision, Huawei was allowed to participate in the network, but the company will not be able to access “sensitive parts” of the core network.

In the Netherlands, Huawei is banned from “critical parts” of the network, the cabinet reported in December. But there is still much uncertainty about this. Another formal decision follows.
