The German government has planned tighten restrictive measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic in view of the fact that the partial stoppage of public life, in force since last day 2, has not contributed as much as desired to reduce new daily infections.
The plan that the German Chancellor wants to present for debate, Angela Merkel, in his virtual meeting this afternoon with the heads of government of the federated states, and to which the media have had access, he plans to further reduce contacts, ban private parties until at least Christmas and reorganize school activity.
Thus, the federal government will propose to limit meetings in public spaces “immediately to members of one household and a maximum of two people from another residence” and contemplates sanctions for non-compliance with this measure. Children and young people should also minimize their contacts and reduce their meetings in their free hours to a only fixed friend.
The general population should avoid as far as possible staying in closed spaces with an influx of public, which in practice translates, for example, into not shopping beyond what is necessary, says the newspaper “Zeit”. Likewise, visiting elderly or vulnerable people should be dispensed with.
When it comes to schools and kindergartens, the goal is to keep them open. To do this, the federal government bets on its proposal for the mandatory mask for all students over twelve years and for teachers, face-to-face classes in closed groups and their division into subgroups.
However, the government wants to give the federal states a week of time to propose possible measures that help to minimize the risk of contagion in schools, the media reported.
On the other hand, before any symptoms cold and respiratory tract infection, those affected should stay home and quarantine, as the head of the Bavarian Government, Markus Söder, views with skepticism.
In statements to the morning program of the public channel ZDF, he pointed out that this measure still requires extensive debate. On the contrary, he supported other restrictions such as the division of groups in schools, reducing subject matter and expanding distance classes. “It is not going to be a normal school year,” he warned, while appealing for the cooperation of parents and teachers.
The government proposal also contemplates the supply from December of FFP2-type masks for particularly vulnerable groups – a total of 15 per person – at a subsidized price subject to a minimum copayment.
“The evolution of the last few days raises the hope that the high exponential dynamics of contagion has been able to stop, but it is not possible to expect a decrease in new infections“can be read in the document, quoted by the media.
The situation remains serious and the government has four “harsh winter months” before the seasonal effects and the start of vaccination “hopefully” lead to gradual overcoming of the pandemic, underlines the document.
The German health authorities accounted for 10,824 new infections with coronavirus in the last 24 hours, far from the new maximum of 23,542 on Friday, although, which is attributed to the fact that not all the federal states communicate their data on the weekend and laboratories perform fewer tests.
However, on Monday of last week the number of new infections amounted to 13,363, about 2,500 more than today.
According to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) updated last midnight, the positives counted since the first contagion was announced in the country at the end of January reached 801,327, with 12,547 fatalities, 62 more in one day, while the number of active cases is estimated at 273,600.
