Last week, almost everyone talked about Pierre Gasly after winning the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix with AlphaTauri, making him the first French race winner after 24 years. Gasly also started the Mugello weekend well, eventually with a hair’s breadth, but he said goodbye to the bigger surprise at the end of Q1 in Saturday’s time trial, he can only start from 16th place in the Tuscan race, which he found with tremendous frustration.

Even after his loss, he couldn’t hide his frustration. “Today was frustrating because the whole weekend has gone well so far. The car was good in free practice, then we set the engine a little higher on the timer, so my laps ran out of energy in front of the finish line, which took me more than a tenth of a second, and if we look at the difference, I only missed half a tenth for Q2. ” said the French.
“Obviously it’s not good to be so back on a track like this. It’s a shame because everything went great before that, but we still didn’t manage to put things together on the timer and we made small mistakes in the worst moments. We have to figure something out for rescue because we know we’re faster than that, but we’re trying to aim for tomorrow, ”he added.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1, AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost explained Gasly’s ailment with simple slowness and understeer. His teammate Danyiil Kvjat closed slightly better than Gasly, but the Russian also only grabbed the 12th starting cube with the other AT01.
