Arne Slot is very pleased that AZ managed to hire Bruno Martins Indi for the rest of the season on Deadline Day last week. The trainer of the Alkmaarders is already impressed by the qualities of the defender after one week.

“Bruno makes a very good impression. Based on what I have seen, it is not surprising to me that he has been international in the past,” Slot said at his press conference on Friday. WE. “In any case, he achieves a high level in training.”

28-year-old Martins Indi is rented by AZ from Stoke City for the rest of the season, where he could regularly count on a basic place. The defender has already played 137 official games for the Championship club. With a view to the European Championship, he thinks he has a better chance of a place in Orange at AZ.

Between 2012 and 2017, Martins Indi already played 34 international matches for the Dutch national team and in the summer of 2014 he was even a permanent member of the team that finished third at the World Cup in Brazil. Slot sees that the former Feyenoord player is of immediate value to AZ with his experience.

“Bruno is a cheerful and positive guy in the group, but also someone who is willing to point out their responsibilities to players during training. He is already very present in his coaching,” said Slot.

Chances are that Martins Indi will already make its debut for AZ on Saturday, which will then play a home game against VVV-Venlo (kick-off at 8 p.m.). The Alkmaarders are still without a victory in the Eredivisie after three games.
