On Friday, both sessions of free rides had to be canceled due to the fact that, if necessary, the medical helicopter could not reach the hospital on duty in Koblenz, and on normal roads this would require almost forty minutes instead of the maximum twenty minutes required by the rules.

Commenting on Friday’s events, racing director Michael Masi said the FIA has a backup plan for Saturday and Sunday.

In order to guarantee the delivery of the injured rider to the hospital in twenty minutes, if necessary, this route will be divided into several sections. An ambulance will pass that mountain section, due to which the weather was not easy today, and a helicopter will be able to fly most of the way, keeping within the allotted standard.
