New stadium is part of the Feyenoord City urban project
In the past 24 hours, the commissioners of the club and Stadium Feijenoord have agreed to lead the new stadium to a final investment decision. This is scheduled to take place in the autumn of 2021. A project office will start with the technical design this week.
“There is still a long way to go and we are certainly not there yet. But good steps have been taken in recent months, which give the club and the stadium the confidence that we – hand in hand with many supporters, the municipality and other stakeholders – will do it. a new stadium, “said general manager Marc Koevermans.
“Club and stadium are happy with the design of the new stadium. It looks beautiful. Based on the deepening layers that we continuously create and the insights that this yields, we feel that the new stadium is feasible and a significant contribution. can deliver to the desired growth of Feyenoord’s football budget and the development of the club as a whole. “
Nevertheless, the club still has to overcome several obstacles before the plans can be definitively submitted to the municipality of Rotterdam, which will participate in the construction of the stadium for 40 million euros. “This applies to the construction costs, financing and the business case.”

The new stadium of Feyenoord, which is part of the large Feyenoord City project in South Rotterdam, has been much discussed. Initially, the Rotterdammers only wanted to think about the stadium on the banks of the Maas if the club would receive a guaranteed 25 million euros per year as a performance fee.
When it became apparent in February 2019 that the parties were able to comply, the DMK consortium came up with an alternative to renovate and expand De Kuip from 50,000 to more than 63,000 places. In addition, the costs of 200 million euros would be considerably lower than the estimated 444 million euros for a completely new stadium. The renovation is also expected to be completed in 2024, while the new stadium will be completed in 2025 at the earliest.
Work on the new stadium is scheduled to start in the spring of 2022. To date, EUR 20 million has been invested in the plans for the new facility.
