Feyenoord has found the desired defensive reinforcement in Uros Spajic. The 27-year-old center-back is rented from the Russian FC Krasnodar for the rest of the season.
“It is known that we would like to add another central defender to the selection,” said technical director Frank Arnesen. “With the arrival of Uros Spajic we succeeded and we add not only an extra option, but also extra experience to the back line of the group.”
Spajic is an eleven-time international of Serbia and has been under contract with FC Krasnodar since 2018, where former Feyenoord player Tonny Vilhena plays. Before that he was active at Anderlecht, Toulouse and Red Star. He made his professional debut at the latter club.
After the departure of Jan-Arie van der Heijden and the hired Edgar Ié, Feyenoord was looking for a new center-back. Trainer Dick Advocaat already insisted in the media for the arrival of an extra player for the rearguard.
Spajic is the sixth reinforcement for Feyenoord, which opened the Eredivisie season on Saturday with a 0-2 victory over PEC Zwolle. Earlier, the Rotterdammers recorded Francesco Antonucci (AS Monaco), Mark Diemers (Fortuna Sittard), Bryan Linssen (without club), Christian Conteh (FC St. Pauli) and João Carlos Teixeira (Vitória SC).
