Feyenoord can call itself the new leader of the Eredivisie. The Rotterdammers were 1-4 too strong for Willem II on Sunday and thus benefited from the 1-0 defeat that Ajax suffered at FC Groningen earlier in the day.

Feyenoord acquisition Teixeira asserts himself

On a visit to Tilburg, Feyenoord fell behind due to a goal from Vangelis Pavlidis. Ridgeciano Haps tied the score in the first half.

In the second half, the team of trainer Dick Advocaat turned out to be a size too big for Willem II, who had to concede two goals from captain Steven Berghuis and one goal from Bryan Linssen.

Feyenoord is unbeaten this season and, just like sc Heerenveen, has ten points, but a better goal difference. Vitesse and Ajax follow as numbers three and four with one point less.

Later that day PSV can still take over the lead from Feyenoord. The people from Eindhoven need a home win of five goals over Fortuna Sittard for this.

Initially, it did not seem that Feyenoord would have a nice afternoon, because it was Willem II who took the lead on Sunday within fifteen minutes. Pavlidis got the ball at his feet and hit from close range.

Trainer Advocaat, who gave Uros Spajic, Mark Diemers and João Teixeira a basic place, saw that his team was struggling with the energetic home team. Still, a quick answer followed, when Teixeira gave up and enabled Haps to score.

The goal led to more chances for Feyenoord, which got chances before half time via Teixeira – he made a good impression – and Linssen. Before halftime, however, there were no more goals.

It was an early hit after the break, when Linssen remained calm in the sixteen-meter area and scored his first goal in the Feyenoord shirt. Less than ten minutes later, the visitors walked further away, when Berghuis made his fifth season goal.
