Team boss Mattia Binotto said he expected more from the German’s performances. His response was immediate.
Sebastian Vettel rescued a point with the Ferrari in the Grand Prix of Portugal this Sunday, seeing the checkered flag in the tenth position. Despite the lackluster performance of the team this year making any vintage look good, the long faces are still in Maranello. And the German, who will not continue their bond next season, is one of the main recipients of disappointment.
Precisely Mattia Binotto, team leader and one of those targeted by the Ferrari crisis, rekindled the fire of the crisis with public statements that were aimed directly at the German.
“The cars of Seb and Charles are identical, no doubt about that. I sincerely hope that Sebastian can qualify later in Imola and show what he is capable of also during the race. Charles is certainly very good, but maybe you wait a little more than a second pilot“Binotto pointed out in the first instance.
And he also said: “We made some changes that are development options also for next year. We were waiting for the answers and this Sunday we got them. We believe that the path and the direction we are taking is the correct one ”.
In turn, the Ferrari team boss said: “We finished ahead of our direct rivals. Even Sebastian, despite starting from behind, managed to regain positions. When he also had a clear track, he had a decent pace. I’m curious and interested in seeing if in a week we will be able to confirm the performance seen today in Imola ”.
For his part, Vettel was also somewhat fed up with the operation of his car: “Where do I waste time? I’ve been grinding my teeth all year. An idiot may never realize it, but Am I a complete idiot? I doubt it. At some point you should get lucky and hit the mark. I never do, and if I succeed, it is only with great difficulty. On the other side it seems so much easier. “
