FC Twente booked a stuffy, but well-deserved victory over ADO Den Haag on Saturday. The team of trainer Ron Jans gave away a 0-2 lead in the final phase, but still won 2-4.
The opening goal came close to Queensy Menig, who accelerated and found the far corner. In the second half, Ajax mercenary Danilo Pereira seemed to take care of the much stronger Twente for the decision, which was given a chance.
Fifteen minutes before the end, contrary to expectations, it was still exciting due to an own goal by Twente defender Julio Pleguezuelo. Thanks to a hit by Samy Bourard in the 86th minute, the incoherent ADO even seemed to steal a point.
Twente, however, recovered after that blow, started again and took the victory thanks to Danilo. The Brazilian made his eighth season goal from close by, making him the top scorer of the Eredivisie. In the final seconds Thijs van Leeuwen took care of 2-4.
After a turbulent summer, in which a new selection and staff had to be built, Twente is one of the surprises of the Eredivisie for the time being. In any case, the Enschede team is in third place.
At ADO, where many changes also took place, things are a lot more difficult. Coach Aleksandar Rankovic only led the residents of The Hague to victory once, with the result that the club is in the relegation zone.
