FC Emmen has strengthened itself on Thursday with Donis Avdijaj. The former player of Roda JC and Willem II, among others, signs a contract until the end of the season, with an option for one more year.
Avdijaj had been training with trainer Dick Luckien’s team for several weeks after his contract with the Scottish Heart of Midlothian was terminated last summer. “We have experienced this as very positive”, said chairman Ronald Lubbers on the FC Emmen website.
“Donis is a player who can bring something extra to a position where we don’t have much choice at the moment”, Lubbers continues. “We see him mainly as a left winger, but he can also work in the other positions in the front. We hope he shows again what he has to offer.”
The 24-year-old Avdijaj played for the first time on the Dutch fields for Roda JC in 2018. The attacker, who was hired from Schalke 04 for six months, impressed with four goals in fourteen official matches, but could not avert relegation with the Limburgers to the Kitchen Champion Division.
Avdijaj, a six-time Kosovar international, then continued his career with Willem II, but his stay in Tilburg ended in disappointment. The left winger was disciplined with three teammates because they were playing cards in their hotel room until late in the night before the league match against FC Emmen. A few months later, Avdijaj’s engagement was ended.
FC Emmen has a false start to the season. The team from Drenthe is in seventeenth place after eight games and are still waiting for the first victory of the season.
