FC Emmen has responded with surprise to the decision of the KNVB to ban the main sponsorship with sex shop EasyToys. The Dutch football association decided to reject the deal on Wednesday, because the potential main sponsor is in violation of the regulations.
FC Groningen does have a sponsorship deal with EasyToys
FC Emmen does not accept the rejection of the KNVB. “We are surprised and upset about the rejection”, the Drenthe club reports on the website.
“We will study the arguments of the KNVB and consider what to do next. In any case, we do not intend to drop a party that wants to become the main sponsor.”
Last Sunday FC Emmen played in the first league match of this season against VVV-Venlo (3-5 loss) in a shirt without a sponsor. The club thought it had found it with EasyToys and therefore submitted a request to the KNVB last week.
FC Emmen had concluded a multi-season agreement with the company and that would yield the club 500,000 euros per year. In addition, that amount would increase every season.
EasyToys specializes in sex toys. The KNVB forbids the deal with this company on the basis of article 3 of the sponsorship regulations, which states, among other things, that a sponsor may not be in violation of “good taste or decency”.
Remarkably, FC Groningen has had a sponsorship deal with EasyToys for a while, but the company’s name is on the billboards along the field in the Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadium. According to the KNVB, no permission is required for this.
