At the Eifel Grand Prix, due to the foggy weather, both free trials on Friday had to be canceled, with the teams only having an hour to fine-tune before the timer. There are those who say that this system could be introduced on a permanent basis, but Sebastian Vettel is not one of them.
“If there’s no action on the field on Friday, spectators won’t be visiting every Friday either,” Vettel highlighted an important thing. “For my part, I’d rather take Thursdays out of the program than Fridays.” The weekend program begins with interviews on Thursdays.
“By canceling Fridays, working with engineers would also jump. There would be no opportunity to work on the settings, so the influence of these engineers would also be reduced. ”
Lewis Hamilton said the riders would have a harder time doing so. “During Friday’s workouts, we’re making a lot of changes to the settings. If we started on Saturday, there would be no more time for that, ”Hamilton said. “Of course, it would have one advantage: it would free up 22 days on which we would otherwise pollute the air with twenty cars.”
Haas team boss Günther Steiner said the two-day program is also working. “If it’s just about racing, I have no objection to two-day weekends. But for promoters, Fridays are good for business, ”Steiner said.
“I think we adapted well to the Nürburgring, it was a bit like in the old days. We had to think faster and make decisions more boldly, hoping we wouldn’t be wrong. ”
