Max Verstappen dropped out of engine failure in one-third of nine races so far in the 2020 season, in the last two races after the season opener, the Italian and Tuscan Grand Prix twice in a row.
At Honda, after Mugello, they said “not a small” error that caused the outage, but the Japanese have now fixed the problems.
“Our investigation identified several factors as the cause of the problem, but we were able to find solutions to each to prevent such a failure from happening again,” said Tanabe Tojuharu, Honda’s F1 chief technical officer.
It is known that the engine can be used again after repairs, it will be possible to reach back to its components if necessary.
Despite the repair, Verstappen and the cars of two AlphaTauri drivers, Pierre Gasly and Danyiil Kvjat, will also receive fresh resources for the Russian Grand Prix, although these are the last pieces to be used without penalty, and they are also the last stage of development for Honda this year.
The replacement of the alphatauris was planned, but at Verstappen the matter was brought forward because of previous failures. Alexander Albon will only receive the latest Honda engine later, after the British-Thai is at a different “pace” compared to the others after replacing parts at the Spanish Grand Prix.
