To put it mildly, Alexander Albon’s place next year at Red Bull is questionable: the Thai-British rider had previously been given a two-race ultimatum by the team, where he could prove he deserved Red Bull’s trust by 2021, but he didn’t take the opportunity just by the results : closed both races without points.
Although Christian Horner said nonetheless, they are counting on and trusting their pilots, there are a fair number of applicants for the presumably opening position at energy drinkers. The two biggest prospects could be Nico Hülkenberg and Sergio Perez, and looking at these two options alone, the team is not in an easy position when it comes to making a choice.
“As I said before, we want Alex to occupy that meeting,” Horner declared. “Since every session is busy in Formula 1, we have time to find out about alternatives and make a decision. We can also give Alex as much time and support as we want. We’ll see what happens in the remaining 3-4 races. ”
The team boss revealed they don’t have to make a decision before the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which is December 13th. “Alex’s contract allows for that,” he added.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Perez is already sitting on needles waiting for Red Bull’s decision. The Mexican is playing virtually double or nothing: either he can sit next to Max Verstappen next year or he will be left without a seat until 2021 to wait for play.
