Honda announced last Friday that it will not extend its contract with the Red Bull teams, leaving Formula 1 in late 2021.

The development is a serious blow to the energy drink maker, as, as it turned out for more than half a decade, Mercedes does not want to give them an engine, it is not worth buying a Ferrari, and their relationship with Renault is so bad that neither side wants a new joint venture. job.

Just as in 2008, when the factory team was handed over to the Ross Brawns for just £ 1, Honda is still working hard to leave Formula 1 to avoid a loss of face, so they will be ready to help with anything beyond the Red Bullt 2021, said the Japanese manufacturer’s F1 boss, Jamamoto Masasi.

“Honda is happy to negotiate with them if we can help them with anything, not just in terms of resource, anything else. If there is any way we can help the AlphaTauri and Red Bull program after 2021, we are ready to work together, ”he declared.

“Honda has received a lot from the teams, so we want to compare that in some way in the future.”

Asked if this could even involve the transfer of the intellectual property and industrial designs of the engine to Red Bull, which they could then manufacture as their own, Jamamoto replied:

“If the team finds out with this, I’m ready to forward the thing to Japan. As for me, I want to support them as much as possible. ”

“It was a factory partnership with us, but Red Bull and AlphaTauri may not have such a relationship with other suppliers anymore, so we want to help them as much as we can. Our goal is to have the least possible negative impact on our departure. ”

It is known that Red Bull has not proposed to Honda to take over the engine program so far, but there would be logic in this matter: with the introduction of the spending ceiling, the operation of the competition team will be much less, and although it would require a significant investment in own resources production. workers could be transferred there instead of having to be sent.
