Lance Stroll of Racing Point and Max Verstappen of Red Bull got involved in a strange, pointless incident in the second free practice of the Formula 1 Portuguese Grand Prix. The two riders collided at the entrance of the first corner after Verstappen retreated next to Stroll but did not return behind in the braking distance and the Canadian simply turned around.

The pilots escaped the International Automobile Federation (FIA) stewards investigation with impunity, but Racing Point team boss Otmar Szafnauer said it was clear that the energy drink barn rider was the goose in the case. “Max didn’t notice that we were running two quick laps in a row, he shouldn’t have been there,” the expert referred to Verstappen’s overtaking attempt. “It’s crazy. What did you want to achieve with that? ” He asked the poetic question.
Red Bull team leader Christian Horner does not share his opinion. The British’s view is similar to that of the stewards, he says the result of a misunderstanding is an accident. “Let’s go back to the previous round. Lance turned to the last corner and Max let him go because he wanted to get in the wind, knowing that Lance would finish his lap and not go to another fast lap. ”
“So he let go, pulled him in behind him, and reached next to him, assuming he’d take the gas. However, for some reason Lance did not see him and turned into the bend. They both expected the other to take it, ”Horner told his own version, stabbing Stroll a little. “If it had been in a race, we could assume Max was already in the inner arc.”
