Fernando Alonso is preparing to return with steam power, and Renault is trying to make things as easy as possible so he can drive the team’s 2018 car again on Sunday and Monday, this time in Abu Dhabi.

“It’s all about part of wanting to shake back and pick up the rhythm. At the same time, in addition to driving, it also gives us the opportunity to work together on the steering wheel, our favorite button positions and how we want to control the car’s various systems, as well as practice our procedures, ”explained Marcin Budkowski, Renault executive director.

“It may sound simple, but the more we practice now, the less we will have to do in the winter tests. We will only have three days next year, ”he said, adding that the number of pre-season test days will be further reduced and even halved next year. The field is expected to train in Bahrain before the 2021 season.

However, Alonso is now fully focused not only on 2021 but also on 2022. So much so that he has already signaled to Renault as soon as possible, according to the rulebook, on January 1, he would like to see the 2022 model based on the regulations of the new era in the wind tunnel. A story about this was also revived by the chief executive of the Enstone Guard.

F1: Alonso has already given an ultimatum to Renault 4

“We are standing in the wind tunnel, it says: “We can’t use the ’22 car here right now, can we?”. We said that this is the case, it is not possible because of the rules, ”he recalled. “He asked when we could start developing, to which we replied that on January 1st. “Okay, will the car be here on January 1?”, asked the question, and our answer was that he is not usually here, but this time it may be possible. Alonso will begin the third renault era of his career next year: first between 2003 and 2006 and then in 2008-2009. He collected two World Championship titles during his first stay in Enstone – breaking the hegemony of Michael Schumacher and Ferrari – and finished second with two race wins.
