Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto announced a few weeks ago that she will skip the Turkish Grand Prix to focus on factory work, and has since clarified that she will not travel to further races in the 2020 season or 2021.
In Istanbul, Scuderia sports director Laurent Mekies will be the senior, he believes it will not be a problem that Binotto will not be there in the garage on the pit lane wall.
“Mattia has always taken an innovative approach to her work, trying to think differently than usual. He has come up with a work organization that allows him to manage priorities as flexibly and efficiently as possible. He has already used this approach as a technical director, and even more as a team leader, ”explains Mekies.
“It may seem strange at first that he won’t be there physically at meetings and on the pit lane wall, but taking advantage of modern communication opportunities, his word will be clear to everyone, both inside and outside the team.”
Although he doesn’t consider Binotto’s absence a problem, the expert still expects a difficult weekend:
“Based on the characteristics of the track, we won’t have an easy weekend. At the same time, the competition behind the top3 riders is always very tight, all season long it was up to the smallest detail whether we were fighting for the second row or not even getting into Q2. Our main goal will be to justify the improvement we have seen in the last few races and to reduce our backlog in the constructors race if possible. ”
Ferrari is in the 6th place in the championship with 103 points four rounds before the end, 3-4-5 within one point before them. Renault, McLaren and Racing Point with 135 and 134-134 units.
