Everton also won its second game of the Premier League season on Saturday. The ‘Toffees’ were 5-2 too strong for West Bromwich Albion in a spectacle and are therefore in the lead for the time being. Leeds United beat Fulham 4-3 in a goal-rich match.
Everton is the only club with six points, but nine more games have to be played this weekend.
The big man at Everton on Saturday was Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored a hat-trick. He was responsible for the 1-1, 4-2 and 5-2. James Rodríguez, who has come over from Real Madrid, was also accurate, as was Michael Keane. Grady Diangnana (0-1) and Brazilian Matheus Pereira (2-2) scored on behalf of West Brom.
Key moment in the game was the red card for West Bromwich Albion defender Kieran Gibbs, who slapped James Rodríguez in the face just before half time without the ball being in the vicinity. West Brom coach Slaven Bilić was also sent to the stands because of comments on the lead.
Leeds United booked their first victory of the season by beating the also promoted Fulham in a spectacular match 4-3 at Elland Road. Kenny Tete was in the base for the visitors. He provided the assist in the 4-3 of Aleksandar Mitrovic, but his connection goal came too late.
Later Saturday, Manchester United-Crystal Palace (6.30 p.m.) and Arsenal-West Ham United (9 p.m.) are on the program. Donny van de Beek starts on the bench at United.
