However, this does not mean that the “Fast and Furious” movie universe will disappear. If the films in the series focus on Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel, and his family, Universal is preparing spin-off productions focused on other characters in the franchise, such as “Hobbs & Show” (2019), in which features the titular characters played by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
Lin also directed the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth “Fast and Furious.”
“F9”, the latest film in the series, was to be released this year, but the release date has been moved to 2021 due to the pandemic.
The franchise began in 2001, directed by Rob Cohen. In addition to him and Lin, they also directed John Singleton (“2 Fast 2 Furious”, 2003), James Wan (“Furious 7”) and F. Gary Gray (“The Fate of the Furious”, 2017).
The entire series has so far generated revenues of about $ 5.9 billion. The most successful film in the franchise was “Furious 7” (2015), which generated revenues of $ 1.16 billion worldwide.
