Just a day after Josep Maria Bartomeu assure that he had “no reason” to present his resignation, the president of Barça resigned. The letter from the Generalitat in which it assured that there were “no legal or sanitary impediments” for the vote of the motion of censure to be held this weekend cornered Bartomeu and his board, who met in the afternoon and decided to cease in its functions.

The decision of the Generalitat was highly criticized by Bartomeu, who accused the Catalan Government of acting “irresponsibly” and to force a resignation for which, in his opinion, “I had no reason” before the upcoming presidential elections next March.

The president, who appeared after the telematic meeting of the board, assured that did not resign in summer for “responsibility”, to make the new project necessary at the club after the debacle against Bayern, to stop Leo Messi from leaving and to deal with the salary cut for club employees and players in the face of the coronavirus crisis, while he said goodbye with an ad: the club has closed the agreement to be part of the European Super League.

Josep Maria Bartomeu is leaving a criticized management and with more shadows than lights, especially in a second stage in which he put the team in a serious institutional and sports crisis, squandering the great sports legacy that he collected when he was ratified as president in 2014 after the departure of Sandro Rosell.

In its first full season conquered a historic triplet, which led to an incontestable victory in the July 2015 elections, when he obtained more than half of the votes of the members.

Since then, too many black moles in your management. In 2016, he accepted that the club would be sentenced for the ‘Neymar case’ and, a year later, he saw PSGle rob the Brazilian star with the payment of the termination clause.

In Spain he managed to maintain Barça dominance with the arrival of Ernesto Valverde, but always with a bittersweet taste seeing how the eternal rival, Real Madrid, ruled the continent with three consecutive Champions League.

It was precisely the European Cup that gave him one blow after another after the debacles in Rome and Liverpool, where the team was eliminated with a crash. But it was not nothing compared to the 2-8 that Bayern inflicted on him, possibly the most humiliating win in Barça’s recent history and the certification that a cycle had ended.

But before the disaster against Bayern, the club was already a powder keg and the one known as ‘Barçagate’ was the great cause that the motion of censure prospered, in addition to causing a great anger in the great stars culés with Leo Messi and Gerard Hammered to the head. The fact that the club paid a company that used that money to criticize both players and other ex-stars of the club who were critical of the management of the board on social networks, caused a raid on the culé fans shortly before the pandemic stopped football around the world.

With that panorama, and after a 2019/20 season without a single title, Leo Messi released the final bomb with the burofax with which he communicated to the club his wish to leave. Bartomeu managed to stop the fright of the Argentine star, forcing him to pay the termination clause, with which Leo had no choice but to stay, but he did so with a spectacular ‘crack’ in an interview with Goal.com in which he charged very hard against the Blaugrana president. Faced with such a panorama, the motion of censure promoted by Jordi Farré, one of the candidates for the presidency, went ahead with almost 20,000 signatures. It was the beginning of the end for Bartomeu, which ended yesterday with his sad farewell.
